Sports journalist Skip Bayless believes Angel Reese has lagged considerably behind Caitlin Clark in the race for WNBA rookie of the year, no thanks to her inability to put the ball to the basket consistently and efficiently.

The former host of FS1's Undisputed shared his take on this in the recent episode of The Skip Bayless Show on Thursday, highlighting that while he had the Chicago Sky rebounding force as an early favorite for rookie of the year, her inability to score has lessened her impact as the season progressed.

Bayless said:

"The truth is, Angel is a poor shooter with the basketball. I don't know any other way to say it. She's a poor shooter. She's now 38% from the floor, and not from three, because she is 2-of-12 from three, for 17%. I'm talking of 38% on common shots from the field. And 38%, that ranks 51st of 56 qualified players..."

He added:

"And just for the record, Angel's team has fallen to a record of 11 and 22, so she hasn't been having nearly the impact that Caitlin is having on her team..."

Check out what Bayless had to say below, beginning at 1:57:

Angel Reese has been a monster on the rebounding end, averaging a league-leading 13.2 boards per contest in 33 games so far. She is a rebound ahead of her closest pursuer, A'Ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, with 12.1 caroms.

However, her ability to score on an efficient basis, despite averaging 13.3 points per game, at this stage of her career has been left suspect and highlighted, especially of late as the Sky (11-22) have slid in the standings after losing seven straight and eight in their last nine games since the Olympic break.

Meanwhile, Clark (18.9 ppg, 8.4 apg, 5.8 rpg and 1.4 spg) and the Fever (18-16) are on a roll and playoff-bound.

Angel Reese takes pride in her rebounding skills

Angel Reese may still be developing her scoring in the WNBA setting but she always believes that rebounding is her meal ticket in the game and takes pride in excelling in it.

The seventh overall pick in this year's WNBA rookie draft spoke about it following their recent game against the Minnesota Lynx, telling reporters (via CNN):

"Offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds is something that I know I can always do. I knew it was going to translate (to the WNBA) right away and that's something that a lot of players don't want to do."

She went on to say:

"Defense and rebounding win championships, and I've won championships at every level by just doing that."

Angel Reese has been on a rebounding tear in her rookie season, establishing a new WNBA record for rebounds in a single season, which currently stands at 434. It has thrust her into the conversation for rookie of the year honors.
