Angel Reese embraces rookie humility after record breaking back-to-back domination

Chicago Sky v Dallas Wings
Angel Reese embraces rookie humility

Angel Reese is among the many standout rookies in the WNBA this season. While her pro career is off to a strong start, she is reminding herself to stay grounded.

In just her 10th career game, Reese etched her name in the history books. During the Chicago Sky's matchup with the Atlanta Dream this weekend, she recorded 13 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. This outing made Reese only the third player in history to have a double-double with at least five steals in back-to-back games.

Before her performance against the Dream, Angel Reese notched 16 points, 11 rebounds and five steals against the Washington Mystics. On Tuesday morning, she took to X to remind herself to stay level-headed as her first year in the WNBA rages on.

Reese is averaging 11.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists and has notched a double-double on four occasions thus far.

While they are getting an impressive showing from one of their top picks, Chicago still sits in the back end of the standings. The Sky are currently in eighth place with a 4-6 record.

Angel Reese speaks on Chicago Sky's rookie duo

Before the Chicago Sky picked Angel Reese at No. 7, they had another top pick in the 2024 draft. At No. 3, they selected South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso.

Following the draft, many lauded the Sky for building their frontcourt of the future in one night. According to one of the rookies, the two don't plan on splitting up anytime soon.

After Chicago's loss to the Atlanta Dream, Angel Reese was asked about her partnership with Cardoso. She is looking forward to their growth together and thinks they are going to be staples for the Sky franchise for years to come.

"Our duo is something that is going to be here for a while and here to stay," Reese said. "I'm excited for our growth and I'm just happy for us."

Cardoso was one of the top prospects coming out of college this year, but her pro career is off to a slow start. She missed the start of the season and has only played in the Sky's last four games. When on the floor, Cardoso is averaging 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Given her performance in college, Cardoso is sure to hit her stride in the WNBA as she gains more live reps. Nonetheless, Chicago should be pleased with how their first-round picks have performed. Not only is Reese flourishing, but the two obviously enjoy playing together. This should allow Chicago to use them as the foundation for future success.
