Angel Reese was not in the mood to play games on Tuesday night as she hit back at a heckler on X. Fiercely clapping back at the badgerer, the Chicago Sky power forward went off on him as he mocked her for missing layups.
The heckle first began on a now-deleted post that Reese had replied to. Calling her out for missing layups on the first try:
"U realize u can’t make a lay up on the first try most times, right," wrote @adamcarig1568 on X
Reese didn't take kindly to this comment and responded fiercely:
"Do you realize I got drafted 7th in my class while “missing layups” as a ROOKIE shooting 39% on the year & was STILL a all star and that was the worst you’ll ever see me??? or you just laid up with your dog at home hating Adam??" .
The Chicago Sky forward made another post a while later, explaining why she was replying to hate mail on a random Tuesday.
"Not the tweet gone or I got blocked or the account private sorry babessss I’m just bored on a flight" explained Reese trying to re-post the tweet that first started the altercation.
Angel then ended it once and for all after an hour of her first tweet, clarifying that she was done thinking about it:
"It wasn’t a flex. it was tea that was clocked. NEXT".
Angel Reese’s record-breaking WNBA season was downplayed with talk about offensive game
After being drafted by the Chicago Sky as the 7th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, Angel Reese set multiple records in the WNBA as she had one of the best rookie seasons ever.
The former LSU star averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game and became the first rookie to record 26 double-doubles. Additionally, she recorded 15 consecutive double-doubles a first in the WNBA, and was a menace in defense.
Reese broke multiple WNBA records including the most rebounds (446), most offensive rebounds (172), highest rebounds per game average (13.1), and most consecutive games with 20+ rebounds (3) all within her first season.
Despite her incredible contributions on defense Reese was poor on the offensive front as she lacked the final product going forward. Shooting a league-low 43.8% on shots within five feet, Bayou Barbie had a tough time converting her shots.
Leading the league in field goal attempts (274), Reese's inability to convert these attacks has been a major flaw in her arsenal. Considering that the league's average from five feet is 59.6% Reese should be doing better.
Although her offensive side of the game has let her down, it is easy to forget that she is still a rookie. WNBA greats such as Kelsey Plum (42.1%), Dearica Hamby (42.5%), and Jackie Young (33.7%) all had worse shooting percentages than Reese during their rookie season.
All three women today shoot above the 60% mark and with Reese still in her first season, we should see an upgrade in her game in the coming seasons.
