Angel Reese made a surprising admission when talking about the most important game of her life, which featured Caitlin Clark. The two have been pitted against one another since they were in college and now that they both became professional, the narrative of a rivalry has sparked.
During an interview with the Wall Street Journal published on Thursday, Reese named the 2023 NCAA National Championship game the most important of her career, mentioning her hand gesture to Clark. When inquired about that moment, she broke down the relationship she's had with Clark for several years and shared her desire to team up with her eventually.
"Me and Caitlin have been playing against each other since we were kids. It's just a full-circle moment of how women are viewed when it comes to trash-talking. It's ok in men's sports so we're gonna normalize that in women's sports as well.
"It's just super competitive. I think we're two great competitors. We brought a lot of fans to this league and I think we're gonna continue to do that and one day, hopefully, we can be teammates," Reese said.
After several clashes in college, the Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark duels in the WNBA drew a lot of attention. Plenty of fans tuned in to watch them battle it out, even breaking viewership records early in the season. This is likely only the beginning of incredible careers for these two and much likely not the end of the debates between them.
Caitlin Clark explained how she felt teaming up with Angel Reese
In July, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark joined forces to beat Team USA in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. At the time, Clark was asked about being teammates with Reese for the first time ever, with the guard saying that people would be excited about this game.
"I don't think I've ever been her teammate before, even with USA Basketball or anything like that. So, I know people are going to be really excited about it, but I hope it doesn't take away from everybody else. This is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everybody on Team WNBA. They all deserved the same praise," Clark said.
Reese shared her desire to team up with Clark on Team USA after the All-Star Game, but we'll have to wait four years to see if they join forces again.
