Angel Reese and Washington Mystic rookie Aaliyah Edwards swept the votes from the WNBA players as the most impressive rookies this season. The official X (formerly Twitter) account of the WNBA posted a video, where they asked several WNBA stars from the All-Star game about their opinions on the rookies this season.
At the beginning of the video, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were the two predominant names mentioned by the WNBA players. There was also the mention of the Los Angeles Sparks' rookie Rickea Jackson early on, but Edwards grabbed more votes as the video progressed with Reese being a consistent pick among the players.
Angel Reese chose Aaliyah Edwards as one of the most impressive rookies this season. The Chicago Sky rookie highlighted that she never faced Edwards before the WNBA in her days as a college basketball player. Reese was in LSU while Edwards played for UConn. The two teams never went up against each other when both were college players.
The Chicago Sky star has been an indispensable asset for her team this season. She had become a double-double machine before the WNBA entered the international break. Reese is averaging 13.5 points, 11.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
Meanwhile, Aaliyah Edwards is averaging 8.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in a team that is not having the greatest season this year.
Who is more likely to win the ROTY award between Angel Reese and Aaliyah Edwards?
Angel Reese and Aaliyah Edwards were the players named as the most impressive rookies by the WNBA stars. However, winning the ROTY award is an entirely different story.
Reese is way ahead of Edwards when it comes to winning the award as she has proved herself as one of the best rookies to ever get drafted. She broke WNBA icon Candace Parker's record for the most consecutive double-doubles in a single season and is averaging a double-double in her stats. On the contrary, Edwards has played more as a rotational player for the Washington Mystics.
Reese is way ahead of her in the ROTY race and the only competition she is facing right now is from the Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark.
