Angel Reese practically lobbied for the Chicago Sky to sign Kysre Gondrezick before the start of the season. The No. 4 pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft did just enough in the preseason games to earn a spot on the roster. She signed a one-year, $64.1K non-guaranteed deal.
Gondrezick, however, hardly played under new coach Teresa Weatherspoon. A little over a month after signing the contract, Sky waived her. Chicago wanted a little more roster flexibility for a playoff push and didn’t want the backup guard’s contract to be fully guaranteed.
Angel Reese went on X, formerly Twitter, following Kysre Gondrezick’s release. The rookie forward shared how much she missed her former teammate.
On Monday, “Chi Barbie” was back at it with almost the same message for her good friend:
“love you & miss you pookie”
Kysre Gondrezick has been quite busy since the Sky released her. She went to the ESPYs with boyfriend Jaylen Brown, who earned the “Best Championship Performance Award” after leading the Boston Celtics to the 2024 title.
Brown and Gondrezick also attended the Lakers-Celtics Summer League Game in Las Vegas, where Angel Reese joined them.
Over the summer, Brown and Gondrezick shared photos of their vacation in Europe.
Reese spent some of her WNBA break going to the UK and the 2024 Paris Olympics. She returned to the US in early August to prepare for the resumption of WNBA action.
Kysre Gondrezick will be cheering for Angel Reese to lead the Sky to the playoffs
Although Kysre Gondrezick’s stint with the Chicago Sky lasted only five games, she could still be hoping they make the playoffs. Angel Reese will be in the thick of the fight, helping the Sky push for a playoff spot.
Chicago’s 86-68 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday dropped its record to 11-16. They will desperately hold on to the eighth and final playoff spot but the Atlanta Dream (9-17) are only 1.5 games behind them. Chicago has 13 games left, which means that every game will be crucial.
The Sky might not make the playoffs if they falter while the Dream ends the season with a strong finishing kick.
Considering how close they have become, it will not be a surprise if basketball fans see Kysre Gondrezick attending one of Angel Reese’s games.
