Angel Reese shared a message with her followers ahead of Unrivaled's inaugural season, which tips off Friday in Miami, Florida. Reese has been preparing for her debut in the 3-on-3 league co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Reese addressed her 678,000 followers. The message was about reminding herself how good her life is and how there should be nothing to be upset about. Reese has been dealing with online hate, prompting her to temporarily deactivate her Instagram account to start 2025.
"I always get reminded that life is TOO good to be mad or upset about something temporary! Like LIFE IS SOOO GOOD! Control what you can control!" Reese tweeted.
Angel Reese recently drew criticism for her New Year’s Eve outfit, which some deemed provocative. Nevertheless, the Chicago Sky star defended her right to celebrate 2025 in her own way.
Despite the negativity at the start of the year, Reese pushed through by sharing videos of her workouts as she prepares for her first game with Rose BC in Unrivaled. She is set to play under coach Nola Henry and alongside Chelsea Gray, Brittney Sykes, Kahleah Copper, Lexie Hull and Azura Stevens.
It will be interesting to see how Reese performs in a new setup with a true point guard in Gray. One of the biggest flaws of the Sky’s roster was the lack of a reliable playmaker, which would have made things easier for the LSU product in the post.
Rose BC will begin its Unrivaled campaign on Jan. 17 against Vinyl BC. The game is set to start at 8 p.m. EST and will be televised on TNT. The games will also be streamed live on Max, a paid subscription service.
Angel Reese on what makes her excited to play for Unrivaled
Speaking on the "What an Experience" podcast with Lonzo Ball, Angel Reese was asked about her thoughts on playing in the Unrivaled league. She expressed her excitement about staying in the US instead of playing overseas and playing alongside some of the best players in the WNBA under different rules.
"For one I'm staying in the states, I don't have to go overseas," Reese said.
"I'm making six figures. I’m living in Miami during my off-season. I’m playing 34 of some of the best WNBA players, being able to get better. Some of the best coaches, we got T-Spoon, we got Phil, we’ve got a lot of great coaches there."
From 12:04 onward:
Unrivaled is scheduled to run for exactly two months, from Jan. 17 to March 17, giving players ample time to recover and prepare for the 2025 WNBA season.
