Chicago Sky All-Star forward Angel Reese recently made history by becoming the first professional basketball player to hit the cover of Vogue magazine. Among those who gave her props was Grammy-winning artist, SZA.
The 22-year-old former LSU standout, who is also known for her keen fashion style apart from her basketball skills, is featured in a stunning red ruched Versace dress on the cover, which was photographed by Norman Jean Roy.
Singer-songwriter SZA took notice of Reese's Vogue feature and shared a five-word reaction in an Instagram story.
The "Snooze" artist wrote:
"Straight CASHHHHH she so cold."
Angel Reese's Vogue feature touched on the ongoing movement of blending fashion and sports among athletes, who have been tapped by global brands as cultural and style icons.
Reese is coming off an eventful WNBA rookie season with the Sky, where she established herself as a ferocious double-double machine. She averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds on her way to becoming an All-Star in her first year and finishing second in the Rookie of the Year voting.
She is currently preparing for her participation in the inaugural season of the 3-on-3 Unrivaled Basketball League beginning Jan. 17 in Miami. Reese will be playing for the Rose Basketball Club alongside Chelsea Gray (Las Vegas Aces), Kahleah Copper (Phoenix Mercury), Brittney Sykes (Washington Mystics), Azura Stevens (LA Sparks) and Lexie Hull (Indiana Fever).
Angel Reese says it has always been basketball and fashion for her
The Vogue feature is significant for Angel Reese for its historic nature and because it vividly captures her lifelong passion for basketball and fashion.
She shared this when she highlighted that while growing up enjoying basketball, she was also into dressing up and expressing herself through fashion.
Reese said:
"It's always been both: basketball and fashion. I was always in my mom's closet, putting on her stuff. Hair done. I wanted to look put together. I still do."
Apart from what she does on the court now for the Chicago Sky, Reese has also become known for her pre-game outfits, which are eclectic in range. She is being noticed as well when she is attending various fashion events.
During her rookie season, she also began dipping her hand into podcasting through her "Unapologetically Angel" show, where she engages in unfiltered conversations with her guests on a wide range of topics. The podcast, produced by Playmaker, the team behind Shaquille O'Neal's "The Big Podcast," has garnered a steady following.
