In a video that has gone viral on social media, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese can be seen allegedly claiming refereeing bias in favor of Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark. The incident took place during the Sky's 100-81 loss to the Fever on Friday.
With 4:30 remaining in the fourth quarter and Indiana leading 94-71, the referee called a foul on Sky's Diamond DeShields for contact with Clark on the baseline just under the basket. DeShields disagreed with the call and appeared frustrated, even exchanging words with the official.
Reese stepped in and pulled her teammate away in an effort to calm her down. During this moment, Reese was caught on camera seemingly saying, "you know she gets a different whistle."
The Athletic reporter James Boyd posted on X about the incident:

Just seconds later, with 3:52 remaining in the game, DeShields committed a hard foul on Clark, shoving the 22-year-old Fever rookie from behind and sending her to the floor. The referee immediately blew the whistle and went to the monitor to assess whether there was malicious intent.
Upon review, the foul was upgraded to a Flagrant Foul Penalty 1, marking DeShields' third foul on the former Iowa superstar.
Fans react to Reese's alleged comments
Fans reacted to Reese's alleged remark, with one X user highlighting how the Sky rookie tried to cover the mouth before saying what she said.
"Lmao she tried to catch herself from saying it but it was already too late."
"If CC got a fair whistle, she would be shooting as many free throws a game as A'ja Wilson," said another fan.
Angel Reese made a similar claim in June
The Sky rookie previously attracted criticism when she said "some people get a special whistle," referring to Caitlin Clark.
This incident dates back to June 17, when the Chicago Sky faced the Indiana Fever at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. During that game, Reese was called for a Flagrant foul after striking Clark on the head while attempting to block her shot.
After the game, the Sky rookie was asked about the officiating when she made these comments.
"I think we were playing really hard. I think we went up strong a lot of times and we didn't get a lot of calls. And going back and looking at the film, I've seen a lot of calls that weren't made and I guess some people got a special whistle. ... Regardless of the referees, we're not going to be denied. Our goal is to win."
Meanwhile, after their latest victory, the Fever secured the season series over the Sky by a margin of 3-1.
