Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky faced the Las Vegas Aces in their home game in Chicago. Although both teams went scoreless in the starting minutes, the Sky opened the scoring in the first quarter.
Angel Reese scored her first point on a cut with a pass from Chennedy Carter. She ended her first quarter with two points and four rebounds.
Angel Reese on the verge of making history in rebounding
Angel Reese has not been at her best when it comes to scoring. However, the Chicago Sky star has been an absolute monster when it comes to rebounding. Despite being a rookie, Reese has been the best rebounder in the league, especially on the offensive end of the floor.
Reese has 142 offensive rebounds so far this season, the third highest in league history, only behind Yolanda Griffith's 162 and 148 ORs in two different seasons. Reese has 20 offensive rebounds left to touch the record in 12 remaining games.
She averages 5.1 offensive rebounds per game, which means that the record is well within the reach of the Sky rookie. Reese also leads the league in total offensive rebounding by a large margin.
Soon after the game, the No. 7 pick of the 2024 Draft Class took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her thoughts on her mammoth performance. It was also a shot at critics for their relentless trolling on social media.
“If it was easy, everybody would be doing it. we good! #skytown"
Reese is also only 52 rebounds shy of the single-season total rebounding record of Sylvia Fowles' 404. She has 12 games remaining and she averages 12.6 rebounds per game. With the same average, it will only take 4-5 games for Angel Reese to shatter the record. However, it is her shooting that has been a cause for concern. Against the Aces fifth-placed defensive rating, Reese went 4-16 from the field.
With this kind of dominance on the glass, Angel Reese will only get better with time and has a legitimate chance to become one of the best in the league. Up next, the Sky takes on the Washington Mystics at home.
They host playoff contenders Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever soon after. At the time of writing, they are placed eighth with an 11-18 record and are one win ahead of the Atlanta Dream. Reese and Chicago will need a few more wins under their belt if they intend to make the eighth seed.
