Angel Reese stats tonight: Sky rookie bags 9th straight double-double in valiant effort vs Aces (June 27)

Angel Reese extended her double-double streak to nine games as she notched up 18 points and 11 rebounds against the Las Vegas Aces. But the rookie's efforts were in vain as the Chicago Sky went down 95-83 to the defending champions at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Thursday (June 27).

The loss marked the team's first in two games as they slipped to 6-10 and ninth overall in the league. Reese shot 7-16 from the field but had no 3s to show for in her outing. However, she could constantly get past Ace's defense, and later crash the boards at the other end that stood out as hallmarks of her performance.

The support was scanty as it was just Marina Mabrey (21 points, four rebounds, and 6 assists ), and Chennedy Carter (20 points, five rebounds, and four assists) who did the bulk of the scoring.

Angel Reese continues her meteoric ascent in the WNBA

Angel Reese has been in the spotlight ever since she was drafted by the Chicago Sky in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Her last nine games are ample proof that the former LSU star has quickly adapted to the rigors and the level of competition in the league.

On Thursday, she came into the contest on the back of her career-high 25 points and 16 rebounds in the team's win over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Her scintillating run saw CBS Sports' Isabel Gonzalez put the forward on top of the 'Rookie of the Year' list with Clark at No. 2 In her latest, the analyst opined:

"Reese has been productive on the boards and is currently No. 2 in the league with 11.1 rebounds per game. Against Indiana, she tallied a career-high 25 points along with 16 rebounds, and she’s now just one double-double away from tying Candace Parker’s single-season record streak from 2015."

At the time of writing, Reese is averaging 13.2 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in all her games for the Sky. The latest loss though pegs them back as they slip to ninth place, one seed below playoff contention.

Up next, Angel Reese and Chicago play the Minnesota Lynx. Only time will tell if she can get the side back to winning ways against a side with one of the best defenses in the league this season.
