Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky aimed to build momentum after dropping four of their last six games, including two of three since the 2024 Paris Olympics break. They faced the Connecticut Sun after a five-day hiatus, looking to secure their 12th win.
As they entered tonight’s game with an 11-16 record, good for eighth in the league, every game became crucial for Angel Reese and the Sky. Close behind them were the Atlanta Dream, just one game back with a 10-17 record, riding a three-game winning streak heading into tonight.
In the first half, Angel Reese struggled, posting a game-low minus-12. She missed all five of her field goal attempts but managed to grab eight rebounds, including three offensive, and blocked a shot.
Reese had a tough time against forward Alyssa Thomas, who recorded six points, seven assists and six rebounds with a plus-12 rating in the first half, making three of her four shots.
The Sun ended the first half with a 45-35 lead.
Angel Reese found her rhythm in the third quarter. With eight minutes left in the period, she started scoring with a layup, then quickly added a block, a rebound and an assist to Kamilla Cardoso within 30 seconds as the Sky chipped away at the Sun’s lead.
She added seven points in the last five minutes of the quarter, helping the Sky take a 64-63 lead. By the end of the third quarter, she had nine points and 16 rebounds.
Reese continued to struggle offensively in the fourth quarter, managing only four free throws, but her rebounding prowess was on full display, bringing her total to 20 rebounds.
With the game tied and four seconds left, Thomas went to the line and sank two free throws. The Sky had a chance to win it in the final seconds, but Reese’s attempt at a give-and-go led to a turnover as time expired.
Angel Reese finished with the following stat line:
Connecticut’s Marina Mabrey scored 24 points in her first game against her former team, while DeWanna Bonner added 15, and both Thomas and Brionna Jones contributed 12 apiece.
Angel Reese raises eyebrows in Detroit Pistons hoodie
Although Reese played her college ball in Maryland and Louisiana and was drafted by the Chicago Sky, she raised eyebrows by sporting a Detroit Pistons hoodie in a video she posted on social media.
The video caught fans' attention as she’s been linked to Pistons center Jalen Duren, a key member of Detroit’s young core.
During the WNBA's Olympics break, Reese and Duren were rumored to be spending time together on vacation.
