WNBA rookie Angel Reese's double-double streak came to an abrupt end on Saturday as she and the Chicago Sky fell to the New York Liberty, 67-81.

The game saw the Sky get off to a hot start in the first quarter, outscoring the Liberty 21-14. In the second quarter, however, the Liberty turned things around, outscoring the Sky 29-13.

The New York-based team were then able to hold onto the lead through the third quarter, despite a comeback attempt from the Sky. However, in the fourth, they were then able to build on the lead en route to an 81-67 win. In the case of Angel Reese, she finished the game with 16 rebounds and eight points.

While her work on the glass was impressive, her double-double streak has now come to an end after 15 games. Reese had a chance to extend her streak late in the fourth quarter with the clock winding down.

As she drove to the hoop, the Liberty quickly quadruple-teamed her, forcing her to give up the ball. At the end of regulation, she finished with eight points, 16 rebounds, one assist and one steal while shooting just 3-13 from the field in 36 minutes.

The loss made it two straight for the Sky, who currently sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, and eighth place in the WNBA power rankings.

Looking at Angel Reese's double-double streak and the WNBA Rookie of the Year race

Angel Reese's double-double streak put her in talks for the WNBA's Rookie of the Year award. While Caitlin Clark has remained a heavy betting favorite, Reese's play was impressive enough to land her in the Rookie of the Year conversation.

Currently, Clark remains a heavy betting favorite on FanDuel with -1050 odds, while Reese sits in second place with +600 odds. Despite that, her rookie year has gotten off to a fast start. The LSU alum broke Candace Parker's 12 straight games with a double-double record, made during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

While Reese was able to break the record as a rookie, Parker notably set the record eight years into her legendary WNBA career.

On the heels of Reese and the Sky's loss on Saturday, the team will now prepare to face the Las Vegas Aces, who are two-time defending champions. The game will mark the last the Sky will play before the WNBA's All-Star break, and Olympic break, which will last until August.

Angel Reese will, however, be suiting up as a WNBA All-Star, where she and fellow rookie standout Caitlin Clark will share the court for the first time. They will be teammates when they take on Team USA on Jul. 20 at All-Star weekend in Phoenix.
