Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was not bothered about a unique personal achievement that she secured during the Sky's 20-point loss against the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday. Visibly frustrated by the loss, Reese turned down a question highlighting her achievement during the postgame interview.

“I don’t want to hear about no record, man," Reese said.

Thursday's game concluded with the Chicago Sky suffering an 85-65 loss at home against the Phoenix Mercury to tipoff the second half of their 2024 WNBA season. Angel Reese led the Sky's losing effort with a double-double performance of 11 points, 15 rebounds, one assist, two steals and a block while shooting 28.6% from the field.

Eight of Reese's 15 rebounds in the game were on the offensive side, which secured her the record for most offensive rebounds in a single season in Sky franchise history. With her sixth offensive rebound in the game, she overtook Sylvia Fowles, who previously held the record at 117.

Angel Reese had also acquired various individual accolades in the first half of her rookie season. Most notably, the star rookie broke the WNBA record for most consecutive double-doubles, which was previously held by Candace Parker at 12. Reese extended the streak to 15 double-doubles before it snapped.

The seventh overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft was also named the Player of the Month for June and is also in a tight head-to-head running for Rookie of the Year honors alongside Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. Meanwhile, despite her efforts, the Chicago Sky are currently placed eighth in the league standings with a 10-15 record.

Angel Reese shares reason for blowout against Mercury

Despite achieving a significant personal accolade during the Chicago Sky's matchup against the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday, Angel Reese was in no mood for celebration as the Sky were dealt a blowout loss. While she was not interested in talking about her record, Reese elaborated on why the Sky fell short in the game during the post-game interview.

“Even if our offensive shots aren't falling, we gotta play defense,” Reese said. “I think they just made a lot of great shots. They took a lot of great shots, shot really well from the three. They shot 52 percent from the three, which is really, really good. So when a team does that, you have to knock shots down.”

The Mercury were significantly more efficient with their shooting, as they went 33 of 59 (55.9%) from the field, including 52.2% from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Sky only shot 37.0% overall and 21.0% from deep. Chicago will look to get back on the winning track as they hit the road to face the LA Sparks on Saturday.
