Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky's struggles persisted as they suffered their third consecutive loss. They lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Las Vegas Aces 77-75 after A’Ja Wilson’s game-winning layup at the buzzer on Sunday.
Angel Reese extended her impressive double-double streak, posting 11 points and an astounding 22 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. However, her shooting troubles continued, as she went 4-for-16 from the field, a mere 25% accuracy.
Following the game, the Sky rookie took to X (formerly Twitter) to remind her critics that her achievements aren’t easy to come by.
“If it was easy, everybody would be doing it. we good! #skytown,” she tweeted.
Despite the tough loss, Angel Reese made history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to record at least 20 rebounds in three consecutive games.
She also secured 20 rebounds in their recent defeats to the Phoenix Mercury and the Connecticut Sun.
Moreover, she notched her 22nd double-double of the season, tying Tina Charles for the most by a rookie.
However, the loss dropped the Sky to an 11-18 record, putting them just half a game ahead of the Atlanta Dream, who hold a 10-18 record and are in ninth place.
Can Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky hold on to make the playoffs?
Currently sitting in eighth place, the final playoff spot, the Sky are closely trailed by the Atlanta Dream, with both teams going 3-7 in their last 10 games.
According to Tankathon, Chicago has the fifth-easiest remaining schedule. Six of their last 11 games are at home, including their next two matchups against the Washington Mystics and Indiana Fever.
They will then hit the road to face the Minnesota Lynx and the Las Vegas Aces before returning home to play the LA Sparks, Dallas Wings, and Mystics.
Three of their last four games will be away, starting with a road trip to Minnesota to play the Lynx, then a home game against the Mercury, followed by road games against the Atlanta Dream and Connecticut Sun to close out the season.
However, their schedule is slightly tougher than Atlanta’s, according to Tankathon, as the Dream have the fourth-easiest remaining schedule.
Angel Reese’s impact on the Sky is undeniable. With her on the floor, the team’s offensive rating is 102.2, compared to just 92.4 when she’s not playing. Additionally, their rebounding percentage jumps from 42.8 to 54.6 with her presence.
Still, Reese’s field goal percentage is a concern, as she converts just 39.8% of her shots. In her 29-game career, she has only shot 50% or better seven times.
Reese is currently averaging 13.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per game.
