Anonymous WNBA veterans reveal real reason behind Caitlin Clark being omitted from Team USA Basketball Olympics team

WNBA sensation Caitlin Clark was left out of the Team USA squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The roster features high-profile names like A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, but not Clark, who just started her WNBA career.

According to Christine Brennan of USA Today Sports, two WNBA veterans gave their reasoning behind the decision to exclude Clark from this year's Team USA roster.

The two veterans said Clark's fans across the world could be an issue for the squad because she would have limited time to play. Her minutes on the floor would be limited due to the roster's depth with guards like Kelsey Plum and Sabrina Ionescu making the cut.

The men's roster has always featured at least one college player starting with Christian Laettner back in 1992. Even a prospect like Anthony Davis in 2012 couldn't get much playing time with Team USA, and Clark may have had the same fate this year if picked.

Still, considering all the attention Caitlin Clark has drawn in recent weeks, adding her to the roster could have made a difference for Team USA both on and off the court.

Caitlin Clark revealed her excitement to represent Team USA in the Olympics

In April, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick expressed her desire to play for her country in the upcoming Olympic Games. The roster wasn't announced at the time, but there were expectations that she would be picked. Clark described it as a 'dream.'

"That’s one of my dreams as a kid. Growing up, you always want to be an Olympic gold medalist. Lucky enough, I’ve been able to play for a few junior national teams in their basketball system, so I know how special it is to represent USA across your chest," Clark said to TODAY.

As much as she wanted to play for her country in France, and despite having the support of legends like Lisa Leslie, Clark won't make the trip to the French capital for the much-awaited tournament.
