WNBA fans took shots at former player Sheryl Swoopes after Caitlin Clark's dominant performance in the Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky matchup on Friday. The Fever secured a 100-81 victory over the Sky and took another step toward their playoff qualification. Swoopes reposted a post on X, formerly Twitter, praising Fever star Kelsey Mitchell.
However, she did not comment on Clark's career-high 31 points, 12 assists and four rebound outing. This did not sit right with fans who jumped in the comments section of the post, flaming the former WNBA player for not appreciating the Fever rookie for her efforts.
"AND IS sis!" Swoopes wrote.
Swoopes has been critical of Caitlin Clark in the past and has often kept silent when Clark has proved her wrong on the court. One fan characterized her as an "awful" person:
"You’re such an awful human being."
Other fans joined the fray, sharing similar sentiments in the comments.
"Can compliment any player in the world other than Caitlin Clark," @bri_the_RD said.
"So no CC love you a straight hater," @AaronAd76346628 posted.
"@CaitlinClark22 had 31 points 12 assist give her props hater," @JAYEIGHTNINE215 wrote.
Another fan made a sarcastic comment praising Mitchell and Clark but roasting Swoopes at the same time.
"She’s nice, but the one that you hate is clearly the best on the team," @khNrT34LscektVT commented.
"How old is Swoopes? Pettiness does not look good on old people," @KamoheloThoban9 posted.
Caitlin Clark has been the frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year award alongside Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese. However, after her dominant display in Friday's game, the Fever star made a strong case for herself to win the award.
Sheryl Swoopes maintains on-air silence on Caitlin Clark
Former WNBA player Sheryl Swoopes was on commentating duty during the Las Vegas Aces vs. Dallas Wings game on Tuesday. During the third quarter of the game, a break allowed the commentating staff to express their views on Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier, whose stats were being displayed on-air.
While Swoopes' co-host took the lead and praised both Collier and Clark, the three-time WNBA MVP remained silent. Her co-hosts took a pause, expecting any input from Swoopes, but the four-time WNBA champion was not interested in the conversation.
Swoopes reportedly remained silent for the entire 50 seconds that the stats were displayed on-air. The fans were not happy with her reaction and took to X to express their opinion on the silence.
Caitlin Clark has come a long way from her debut game. She has developed into a full-fledged professional and is currently leading the league on the assists table. She has been an important factor in the Indiana Fever's comeback, averaging 18.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game.
