WNBA star DiJonai Carrington turned 27 on Wednesday, and her teammates in the Unrivaled basketball league took time to greet her. Carrington will play for the Mist in the new 3-on-3 women's basketball league. She'll play with Breanna Stewart (co-founder of the league), Rickea Jackson, Jewell Lloyd, Courtney Vandersloot and Aaliyah Edwards.
A video was posted by their team's official Instagram account to celebrate Carrington's special day. Her teammates wished her a happy birthday in the video.
"Hi Nai, happy birthday," Stewart greeted the birthday girl. "Excited to be your teammate. Seatbelt."
"Happy birthday, Nai," Aaliyah Edwards said as she does the 'seatbelt' celebration. "We're doing all season."
"Happy birthday, Nai Nai," Jackson said.
The defensive guard appreciated the greetings from her Mist teammates and left a comment.
"Awwww this is so sweet!!! 🥰 thank you mist girliessss🩵🌫️💺🔒," Carrington commented.
Carrington had an amazing 2024 season in the WNBA. She had her best season so far with the Connecticut Sun, playing 39 games and averaging 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists on 40.3% shooting from the field. She was named the Most Improved Player of the Year.
Not only did Carrington improve on the offensive end, she also played hard on defense. After the season, the league announced that the shooting guard was named part of the 2024 All-Defensive First Team, and fans will witness more of her in Unrivaled.
The Mist will feature Carrington and the rest of the team in their season opener against the Lunar Owls on Jan. 17. The opposing team will feature Napheesa Collier (co-founder of the league), Courtney Williams, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Allisha Gray, Shakira Austin and Cameron Brink.
