Breanna Stewart's wife, Marta Xargay, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram to pay tribute to her late father. The former Phoenix Mercury guard posted a picture of herself with her father, who died one year ago.
"365 days without you, and you don't know what I would give to be able to hug you again! I miss you daddy🕊️✨ I love you!" she captioned the post.
Many people supported Xargay, including Stewart and WNBA legend Sue Bird.
Marta Xargay married Breanna Stewart on July 6, 2021. They first met in Russia when they played for Dynamo Kursk in the 2018-19 season. Their relationship started when Stewart ruptured her Achilles and got closer to Xargay. They have two kids, Ruby and Theo.
Marta Xargay is constantly hyping up and defending Breanna Stewart on social media
Marta Xargay has been vocal this year against those who try to bring down Stewart. In August, she was upset when ESPN writer Kevin Pelton said that despite the Liberty's good season behind Stewart's remarkable performances, she was the second-best player in the league behind long-time nemesis A'ja Wilson.
He claimed that Stewart's low usage and her struggles from distance were signs of the former Storm star aging, as she's getting close to her 30s.
This ranking rubbed Xargay the wrong way, and she called out Pelton X, formerly Twitter.
"STOP WITH THE DISRESPECT!!!! Aging out? She’s the reigning MVP on best team in the league! Do your homework Kevin Pelton!" Xargay tweeted.
More recently, Xargay was ecstatic after Stewart led the Liberty to win Game 2 of their second-round series against the Las Vegas Aces and take a commanding 2-0 lead.
"So f**** proud of you @breannastewart," she wrote on Tuesday.
The series isn't over after the Aces responded with a statement win on Friday, but Stewart and Co. are keen to dethrone the defending champions and become WNBA champions.
