The New York Liberty players, including Breanna Stewart, along with their families and fans, erupted in joyful celebration as confetti rained down at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, marking the franchise's first WNBA championship victory on Sunday. New York superstar Stewart led the celebrations following the Liberty's thrilling 67-62 overtime victory over the Minnesota Lynx in Game 5.
Breanna, celebrating her first WNBA title with the Liberty and third overall, indulged in champagne and smoked a cigar as she basked in the joy of the moment. The veteran forward celebrated the moment with her wife, Marta Xargay, who has stood by the Liberty star's side through all the highs and lows.
Breanna and Marta posed together with the WNBA trophy during the post-game photoshoot. Later, the couple shared a lighthearted moment in the Liberty locker room.
In a video posted by the WNBA on Instagram, Breanna was seen puffing on her cigar and playfully blowing the smoke in Marta's face. Marta, visibly irritated, coughed as the smoke bothered her, adding a wholesome touch to their celebration.
Breanna had a tough time making an impact offensively in Game 5. The two-time WNBA MVP appeared fatigued as she struggled to hit her shots, finishing with just 4-of-15 shooting from the field, including 0-of-3 from beyond the arc.
Despite her offensive struggles, Breanna made significant contributions in other areas of the game, recording 15 rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks in 45 minutes.
