Breanna Stewart reflected on Unrivaled's opening night on Friday by sharing a bunch of images from the event on Instagram. Stewart's wife, Marta Xargay, reacted to her post with a couple of fiery emojis. Xargay has been very supportive of the New York Liberty star's latest venture.
In a post on her Instagram account, Stewart dropped a three-word message for her 460,000 followers on the platform. She shared several pictures from her debut for Mist BC along with co-founder Napheesa Collier, who plays for Lunar Owls BC, as well as Liberty owner Joe Tsai.
"First of many…" Stewart wrote.
Many basketball personalities commented on Breanna Stewart's post, including her wife, Marta Xargay. The former basketball player put down a couple of emojis to show her continued support for the love of her life.
Stewart and Xargay have been dating since they were teammates at Dynamo Kursk in Russia. They got engaged in May 2021 and were married a couple of months later. They have two children, a daughter named Ruby Mae born in August 2021, and a son named Theo Josep born in October 2023.
Xargay is now a full-time mother to their two kids, as well as a supportive wife to Stewart. The three-time WNBA champion played in the first-ever game in Unrivaled history, but her team Mist BC lost 84-80 against Napheesa Collier's Lunar Owls BC.
Stewart finished with six points and 13 rebounds after struggling to find her shot. She went 2-for-11 from the field, including 0-for-5 from beyond the arc. Jewell Loyd was huge for the Mist with 30 points and two rebounds.
Collier, on the other hand, had 27 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Skylar Diggins-Smith added 21 points and three rebounds, while Allisha Gray scored 15 points.
Breanna Stewart comments on Unrivaled's opening night
Speaking to reporters after the game, Breanna Stewart said she was a little bit overwhelmed since the concept only came up two years ago. It has now become a reality following the support of several basketball personalities, athletes and investors.
"I can't even put it into words what it's going to be like," Stewart said, according to the Associated Press. "But just the fact that there's so much hype, there's so much content, so much chatter about opening night and we worked really hard to get to this point both on and off the court. Excited to kind of just go in and showcase what we’ve done."
Unrivaled will run for two months, with the games scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays. It's available on TNT, TruTV and Max in the United States and TSN+ in Canada.
