Two-time Olympic gold medalist Breanna Stewart had a stellar performance as she helped Team USA beat Belgium 87-74 on Thursday. The starting center for Team USA made the most of her evening in their second game at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Stewart posted 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The New York Liberty star was one of two players who reached the 20-point mark. Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson had 23 points.
In their second game, Stewie showed up big once again, posting another 20-point game. During their game against Japan on Tuesday, the center finished the game with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, as the Americans won 102-76.
Stewie is on a mission to win her third Olympic gold medal in Paris this year. The women's basketball team has been on a winning streak for quite some time now and the two-time WNBA Finals MVP has contributed significantly in the past.
Breanna Stewart is Team USA's official leader
Team USA has been on an incredible winning momentum and Breanna Stewart has a lot to do with it. Stewie has put the national team on her shoulders in a few instances and her on-court performances were proof that she's the team's official leader.
It all started during their exhibition game against the WNBA All-Stars on July 21. The highlight of the game was the fact that Team USA lost against the team of WNBA stars, 117-109. However, most people have overlooked the performance of Stewart during the game because of the attention on the star rookies, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
Stewart had 31 points, 10 rebounds and three assists during the game. Despite playing with some of her team's greatest players, she took the lead on offense.
She continued to put on a decent performance in their friendly game against Germany on July 24. The two-time WNBA champion had an all-around game against the Germans as she finished with 15 points, six rebounds and five assists. Although she had difficulty making shots in that game, Stewart helped out in different areas of the game.
With how she takes command of Team USA, there's no doubt that the Liberty star is the leader of the team. Her willingness to take over games and lead by example has helped the team establish itself as the must-see team in the Olympics.
