Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty were looking to close out their best-of-five WNBA semifinals series against the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, but the Aces responded with a strong statement, securing a 95-81 victory in their first home game of the series to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The loss marked the Liberty’s first defeat against the Aces this season, coming at a critical moment as the Aces fought off elimination in the playoffs.
Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 19 points on 7-for-17 shooting, but it wasn’t enough as five Aces players scored in double digits.
Below are Breanna Stewart’s full stats.
Stewart started strong, putting up seven of the Liberty's first 12 points. She added another seven in the second quarter, scoring from all over the floor, including a three-pointer, a driving layup, and free throws to keep leading her team in points.
By halftime, Breanna Stewart had 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting, but the Liberty trailed 52-49.
She continued to carry the offense, especially with star Sabrina Ionescu held scoreless in the first half for the first time in her playoff career.
However, the Aces pulled away in the third quarter, where Stewart contributed just three of the Liberty’s six points, while the Aces put up 21.
Though the Liberty outscored the Aces 26-22 in the final quarter, the deficit was too large to overcome.
