New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart recently enjoyed a drink amid her preparation for Unrivaled's inaugural season in less than two weeks. Stewart is set to play in her co-founded league with Napheesa Collier which is set to start on Jan. 17 in Miami, Florida.

In a post on her Instagram stories, Stewart shared an image showing a drink in her hand. It was time for her to enjoy the remaining free time she had ahead of Unrivaled's first season. She has been busy preparing and getting in shape after a triumphant 2024 with the Liberty.

Stewart will play for Mist BC in Unrivaled, teaming up with Jewell Loyd, Courtney Vandersloot, DiJonai Carrington, Rickea Jackson and Aaliyah Edwards. They practiced together earlier in the day, while holding a media day to show off their jerseys.

Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier co-founded Unrivaled back in 2023 to help fellow WNBA players. Most players sign with overseas teams to earn money during the offseason considering how small the contracts are in the WNBA. They received a lot of investments and even got a television deal with TNT.

It allowed Unrivaled to pay the 36-woman roster with a pool of $8 million plus equity of the league and share of revenue. Some of the investors include current and former NBA players such as Carmelo Anthony, Steve Nash, Tyus Jones, Tre Jones, Rip Hamilton and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Other basketball personalities such as Koby Altman, Dawn Staley, Geno Auriemma and JuJu Watkins also put in money for Unrivaled. Athletes such as Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Michael Phelps and Coco Gauff also became part of Unrivaled.

In an interview with Uproxx in July, Breanna Stewart was asked about how Unrivaled was formed. Stewart explained that the idea came from Napheesa Collier's husband, Alex Bazzell, who is a well-known trainer among NBA and WNBA circles.

"Looking back, I had a conversation with Alex Bazzell in New York two years ago," Stewart said. "He kind of brainstormed the idea, and I was like, 'This is amazing, but how can we do it?'
"From there, we were just putting our heads together and figuring out exactly what we wanted to make this league and how we could get players, but also investors, to be a part of it."

Bazzell was later named president of the league, while Stewart and Collier ended up being the first two players to join. Thirty-four other WNBA stars signed contracts with Unrivaled.

The roster was then divided into six teams with six players each. The season begins on Jan. 17 and will run through until March 17, just a couple of months before the start of the 2025 WNBA season. The games are available on TNT and TruTV.
