Earlier this week, Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle announced they are having their first child together. Among the many people to congratulate them included a pair of current WNBA stars.
Brittney and Cherelle announced the news to the world with a series of joint posts on Instagram. Brittney was holding Cherelle while she shows off her baby bump.
As expected, multiple people in and around the WNBA were in the comments congratulating the couple on their pregnancy. Among those to do so were Alysha Clark and Brianna Turner.
Brittney Griner and her wife Cherelle tied the knot in 2019 and are now bringing a child into the world together. The two met while they both attended Baylor University, but didn't end up getting together until years later.
Turner is a former teammate of Griner's, who spent the first five years of her career with the Phoenix Mercury. This past offseason, she was traded to the Chicago Sky in a deal centered around Kahleah Cooper.
As for Clark, she is a three-time champion who has been in the WNBA since 2012. She's spent most of her career with the Seattle Storm but now plays for the Las Vegas Aces.
Brittney Griner speaks on changed mindset as she prepares for parenthood
As most know, it's been a rough couple of years for Brittney Griner. Following a scary situation where she was detained in Russia for 10 months, the eight-time All-Star is back home with her family. Griner now has a special moment to look forward to as her wife is expected to give birth to their child in July.
During a recent interview with "Arizona's Family," Griner touched on being back home and playing basketball again. Known for being an extremely competitive player, she plans to dial things back upon becoming a parent. Griner admitted that having her wife and child in the crowd will cause a change of heart.
“Looking up and seeing my wife and our little baby — it’s definitely going to make me think twice about getting a tech because now I got these eyes on me,” Griner said.
The former No. 1 pick missed the start of the season for the Mercury, but was able to make her season debut last week. After knocking the rust off in her first outing, Griner put together an impressive showing in her second game.
Brittney Griner's first game of the 2024 season came against the Minnesota Lynx. She finished the game with 11 points and four rebounds in a one-point win for Phoenix. In her latest showing, Griner erupted for 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists against the Dallas Wings.
