Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are having phenomenal WNBA rookie seasons. The two young stars carried high expectations coming out of college, and time has proven their fans right. They are going toe to toe for the 2024 Rookie of the Year award while trying to lead their teams to the playoffs in a complex Eastern Conference.
So much has been said about these two, but as the days go by, Clark and Reese get more praise. A former Chicago Sky player and the one who led them to the 2021 WNBA championship, Candace Parker, had nothing but good things to say about the rookies. The 2024 rookie class has made a strong impression this season and Parker has taken notice of that.
"I think the game has always been hungry hands," Parker said in a post on Wednesday on Instagram. "It's just demanding that. I love this new generation because they're not waiting for people to give them things, they're demanding it. Everybody judges you on everything other than playing your sport. They judge you on how you look, how you dress, what car you drive, all of these things, how much money you make.
"And now we have a generation that's just like, 'We're here, and we're going to take what's ours, what is rightfully ours,' and so, I'm excited for the younger rookies coming into the league. They might not be ready for them, which is so cool, because the league is going to be forced to grow."
The 2024 WNBA draft class introduced potential future stars, starting with Caitlin Clark, one of the most hyped prospects in league history. Cameron Brink, Angel Reese, Rickea Jackson, Aaliyah Edwards and Kamilla Cardoso are part of the new generation of players who are making an early impact on their organizations.
WNBA commissioner praises Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese for bringing more attention to the league
Candace Parker isn't the only figure heaping praise on Clark and Reese. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert credited them for all the new attention the league has gotten in the past couple of months.
"These generational rookies like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, that rivalry coming out of college, so, I didn't know it would happen this quickly, but the attendance, the viewership, and everything has gone great," Engelbert said this week.
The W is resuming action this week, with Clark and Reese motivated to lead their squads to the postseason.
