Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark continued her record-breaking ways on Friday, despite her team falling to the Minnesota Lynx, 99-88. Clark set a new single-season team record for 3-pointers made.

Entering the game with 102 triples, Clark was just one short of teammate Kelsey Mitchell’s record of 103 set in the 2023 season. Against the Lynx, she sank five more 3-pointers, bringing her season total to 107 and setting a new team record.

With five games remaining, Caitlin Clark could break into the top three for most 3-pointers made in a single season if she maintains her current averages. She is making 3.0 3-pointers per game on 8.7 attempts.

The current top three for single-season 3-pointers are Sabrina Ionescu with 128 in 2023, Diana Taurasi with 121 in 2006 and Arike Ogunbowale with 117 in 2023.

If Clark continues at her current rate and hits three 3-pointers in each of the next five games, she would reach 122 triples, surpassing Taurasi for second all-time.

In the game against the Lynx, Clark recorded team-highs with 25 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

Sue Bird shares Stephen A. Smith’s Caitlin Clark prediction

Four-time WNBA champion Sue Bird echoed Stephen A. Smith’s prediction for Rookie of the Year following a recent Fever vs Sky matchup where Clark scored a career-high 31 points.

“The Rookie of the Year race is over. She ended that Friday night—not that she wasn't in the lead to begin with—but she ended that Friday night when she dropped 31 on the Chicago Sky when they were blowing them out,” Smith said.

In the newest episode of her “A Touch More” podcast, Bird reiterated her belief that Clark should be named Rookie of the Year following the game against the Sky.

"This is a game that I think everyone was looking forward to because a lot of people felt like there was Rookie of the Year implications on this game," Bird said.
"I personally, ever since All-Star break, have felt that Cailtin was the Rookie of the Year. She has since just continued to prove that."

Caitlin Clark is leading the league in assists per game with 8.4 while scoring 18.9 points per game for the Fever, who have clinched their first playoff berth since 2016.

Angel Reese, the other contender for Rookie of the Year, averages 13.3 points and a league-leading 13.2 rebounds per game.
