Caitlin Clark had another terrific performance when the Indiana Fever took down the Dallas Wings on Sunday. Clark notched her second straight double-double performance, scoring 28 points and 12 assists in the game, catching the attention of WNBA legend and broadcaster Nancy Lieberman.
Lieberman was on the call in the Fever-Wings game and made some positive remarks on Clark, declaring her the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year while also naming her as one of the MVP candidates this season.
“By far, she’s going to be rookie of the year, if anybody thinks she’s not feel free to call me or hit me on instagram or twitter… she’s in the MVP conversation,” Lieberman said in the broadcast.
Fans have since then showered Lieberman with praises following the game. Some of them salute her for making such bold statements in broadcast as Caitlin Clark proves her caliber once more on national television.
“Nancy standing on business,” one fan said.
“And if anyone knows ball, it’s Nancy Lieberman,” another fan said.
“I FUCKING LOVE NANCY,” one fan said.
Meanwhile, other fans loved how courageous Lieberman was in her statements, disregarding those who dismissed Clark’s achievements this season.
“i LOVE it, come for me if you think you know better 😂,” one fan said.
“She gave them the Kim Possible "call me beep me",” another fan said.
“Nancy is ready for the smoke! Lol,” one fan said.
Lieberman was one of the most revered women’s basketball players of her time, playing at 39 during the inaugural WNBA season for the Phoenix Mercury in 1997. She then coached Detroit Shock from 1998 to 2000.
In 2008, Lieberman signed a seven-day contract with Detroit Shock, the eventual WNBA champions, at the age of 50, setting the record for the oldest player to appear in a WNBA game. She also coached in the NBA G-League with the Texas Legends and was an assistant coach for Sacramento Kings from 2015 to 2018.
Nancy Lieberman likened Caitlin Clark to Michael Jordan
Another statement that stood out on Nancy Lieberman’s call on the Fever-Wings game was when she likened Caitlin Clark to one of the greatest basketball players ever, Michael Jordan.
Lieberman commended how the Fever rookie has drastically changed the landscape for the WNBA, equating it to how Jordan, who brought six NBA championships to the Chicago Bulls, impacted the sport back in the 1990s.
“You are going to make all these women multi-millionaires one day,” she said (per USA Today). “Like Tiger (Woods) did, like Michael Jordan did. We shouldn’t hate on her. We should celebrate her, not tolerate her,” she said.
Caitlin Clark has been one of the best players in the WNBA this season, averaging 18.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.4 steals to lead the Indiana Fever to a 17-16 record, placing them sixth in the standings.
