Caitlin Clark given better MVP shot than Angel Reese by veteran analyst due to two reasons

As the WNBA regular season nears its final stage, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese continue to battle it out for Rookie of the Year award. That said, one analyst claimed one of these players could be in the mix for another prestigious award, although it's a long shot.

While appearing on ESPN's SportsCenter, Rebecca Lobo was asked:

"Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, they've been in the Rookie of the Year conversation, but the question is, can either of them enter the MVP conversation?"

The veteran analyst ended up going with the Indiana Fever guard. Lobo doesn't think Clark has a chance to win the award this year but believes the former Iowa standout could end up receiving some votes.

"I would not be shocked if we found Caitlin Clark in that conversation by the end of the year," Lobo said. "Because of the impact she's had on winning, the impact she has had on that franchise and the numbers that she's putting up in particular on the offensive end."

As far as individual production goes, Clark has lived up to the hype. This season, she is averaging 18.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.1 assists. Some of her biggest feats include setting a new WNBA single-game record for assists (19) and being the first rookie to notch a triple-double.

Lobo also brought up team success, which Clark has had an impact on as well. Last season, the Indiana Fever only won 13 games and failed to make the playoffs. They've already surpassed that total this year and are in a position to secure a postseason berth with a 15-16 record so far.

Caitlin Clark earns WNBA Player of the Week honors

Since she was not chosen to play for Team USA in the Olympics, Caitlin Clark got to enjoy the month-long break like the majority of the WNBA. This time off seemed to do well for her, as she quickly hit the ground running when play resumed.

In the first game out of the break, Clark notched 29 points and 10 assists in a win over the Phoenix Mercury. She followed that up with a pair of 23-point outbursts against the Seattle Storm and Minnesota Lynx.

Following this impressive run to begin the final stretch of the season, Caitlin Clark ended up receiving some league-wide recognition. Earlier this week, the Indiana Fever announced that the rookie guard was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

This is the first time that Clark was given POTW honors in her pro career. She was named Rookie of the Month in May and July.

Since being drafted first overall, Clark has built up an impressive list of accolades and feats. Only time will tell if her hard work will culminate in her being awarded Rookie of the Year.
