Caitlin Clark picked up from where she left off against the Chicago Sky as she torched the Washington Mystics with an 18-point double-double on Wednesday. The Indiana Fever rookie had a hot start as she notched up five points in a mere 14 seconds to leave fans floored as the Fever clinched an 88-81 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The win saw Indiana extend their winning streak to three games and improve to 6-10 for the season so far.
The highlight, however, was Clark's five points at quick speed as fans weighed in on her effort on X/Twitter:
"[GOAT] in the making!!! #CaitlinClark #FeverRising #WNBA"
More reactions followed. @dakota_dakota echoed a similar sentiment:
"Generational."
@z_good added:
"Thought she didn’t bring anything else to the table?"
Aliyah Boston fans praised Clark as well as @donelonsniffles said:
"Last three games she has played well overall a double -double and now Boston is playing great."
Her defense didn't go unnoticed either, as @HotRod01 tweeted:
"Yup. Despite what they say, she can play defense."
@indystylez said:
"Appreciate the greatness of Caitlin Clark the face of the @WNBA"
Caitlin Clark ended the night with 18 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Boston and Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 22 points each. Meanwhile, Ariel Atkins led the Mystics with a game-high 27 points, however, it wasn't enough to stop Indiana's offense which is finally showing signs of clicking.
Turnovers still an issue, but Caitlin Clark has shown steady improvement
Caitlin Clark has lived up to the hype as one of the generational stars who earned the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft. While she has blown hot and cold in a few games over the season, the former Iowa Hawkeye has shown promise and steady improvement in other aspects of her game since turning pro.
While her turnovers remain an issue (she had six against Washington), and she's not shooting 3s at the clip she was perhaps expected to, the rookie has shown she belongs on the big stage.
The Indiana Fever seems to be peaking at the right time as it rattled off three wins on the bounce. After a rough start to the season, they are currently eighth in the WNBA standings and will fancy their chances as the season inches to the halfway mark. Up next, Caitlin Clark and Co. hit the road to play the Atlanta Dream at State Farm Arena on Friday.
