The WNBA today officially announced that Caitlin Clark is the 2024 Rookie of the Year following a record-breaking season. Coming into the league, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star carried huge expectations.
She exceeded them and was even in the MVP conversation, confirming that she has everything to mark an era in the league.
The Indiana Fever's official Instagram account shared a picture of Clark with her teammates to celebrate this achievement.
"when you find out you’re the 2024 @wnba Rookie of the Year 📸," they captioned the post.
Clark reposted it on her Instagram stories and added a two-word message to celebrate the teammates and the relationship they built this season.
"my favs 🥺🥺," Caitlin wrote.
Caitlin Clark went from bad to good as the weeks went by, struggling to get the hang of the league in her first few games. Once she had some rest during the Olympic break, the No. 1 overall pick took the Fever to the 2024 playoffs with a 20-20 record, winning seven more games than last campaign.
She became the first rookie to record a triple-double in league history and the first Fever player to do so. She led the league in assists per game and broke the record for the most dimes in a single season.
Clark made an immediate impact on the league, raising attendance and viewership and making opponents move her games to bigger arenas to cash in on her popularity.
In 40 games, she averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game, shooting 41.7% from the field, 34.4% from deep and 90.6% from the free-throw line.
Caitlin Clark reflected on her rookie season with emotional Instagram post
Hours before the WNBA announced her as the 2024 WNBA ROTY, Caitlin Clark sent a message to her fans. She said she fulfilled her childhood dream and told the public that she was ready for her sophomore year.
"Year one — thank you to the many people who have supported me as I’ve been able to live my childhood dream. I’m filled with gratitude as I reflect on this past year of my life. See you all in year two," Clark said.
Even though controversy followed her wherever she went, Caitlin Clark knew how to handle herself in those situations. She was very vocal against the attacks that some of her colleagues were subjected to during the season. Hopefully, next year is better and fans can focus on basketball and not external factors.
