On the latest episode of NFL stars Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce's podcast New Heights, Caitlin Clark revealed her reason for choosing Iowa for her historic college stint.
The Indiana Fever star highlighted distance from her home in Des Moines, Iowa, as one of the key contributors.
"I basically narrowed it down pretty early on when I was going through my college recruitement that I wanted to be in the midwest, just kind of a homebody, family person, just wanted to stay fairly close to home, so that narrowed a lot of the stuff down," Clark said.
"I visited Oregan, Texas and a few other places, and I liked them, but it was just too far."
Caitlin Clark also mentioned that she almost chose Notre Dame but knew intuitively to pick Iowa.
"I visited Notre Dame a bunch of times," Clark continued. I love Notre Dame and as a kid, you want to go to Notre Dame; it's the same for Notre Dame football; it's like the coolest thing in the world.
"It's Notre Dame; it has that tradition. They've had so many great players go through there in every single sport. But I just knew, I could feel it in my gut that I was not supposed to go there."
Citing another reason, Clark highlighted that she chose Iowa as she wanted to have a greater impact and lead them back to being an elite team.
"I picked Iowa, and Iowa was really good at women's basketball even before I went there too. They've made a few Sweet 16s, made the Elite 8, . But they hadn't been to the final four since 1992 so. I wanted to go somewhere that was good, but maybe hadn't been a blue blood per se for quite a few years and try and help them get back to that.
"That was obviously my home state too and two hours from where I grew up so, perfect distance so that your parents can show up but also you go home if you wanted to. It just kinda worked out perfect."
Caitlin Clark confirms that she started getting college offers in seventh grade
During the aforementioned podcast with Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce, Caitlin Clark said that she started getting college offers while she was still in seventh grade.
She also shared that her parents didn't want her to get into that yet, as they wanted her to enjoy being in middle school and not to be zeroed in on her future at all times.
"I feel very fortunate," Clark said. "My parents told my older brother go get the mail we don't want your sister to see that. They wanted me to be in seventh grade and enjoy middle school and hang out with your friends. You shouldn't be worried about where your going to college."
Caitlin Clark also shared that she didn't take any visits until after her freshman year and that she decided on her college only after her senior year.
