Caitlin Clark revealed on Saturday the reason why she's a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies after going viral doing play-by-play on their game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Clark supports the Phillies because of her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery.
McCaffery caught wind of Clark's interview speaking about her fandom of the Phillies despite being from Des Moines, Iowa. The newly hired Butler assistant coach re-posted it on X, formerly known as Twitter, with a five-word prediction for the MLB playoffs.
"Gonna be a RED October," McCaffery tweeted.
Connor McCaffery was referring to the Philadelphia Phillies taking over October, which is when the MLB playoffs take place. The Phillies have already clinched a postseason berth and are just a few wins away from winning the NL East over the New York Mets.
Caitlin Clark went viral after Lexie Hull uploaded a video of the Rookie of the Year favorite doing play-by-play announcing of the Phillies-Brewers game. Clark was then asked by reporters after Saturday's practice about why she's supporting the Phillies.
"My boyfriend grew up a really big Phillies fan, so I kinda had to like the Phillies. I do like them, I love Bryce Harper. I still like the Cubs, I like the Yankees. I'm not like a diehard any baseball team. My dad was a big Royals fan," Clark said.
She added:
"Kansas City was like a professional sports team to us. I liked the Chiefs before the Chiefs were really good too, so I'm not a bandwagoner either. I like the Phillies, so I'll cheer for them this postseason."
Caitlin Clark already getting baseball broadcasting offers
Since Caitlin Clark's viral video involving the Philadelphia Phillies, some people have been impressed by her play-by-play skills. There's even an outstanding offer from Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy for Clark and Connor McCaffery to visit Citizens Bank Park and call a game.
"Great job the other day with that description, got to the hole, threw it comfortably over to first. You have a future. And by the way, any down time you have, you’re up in the booth whenever you want. And bring Connor, too,” McCarthy said.
According to Yahoo! Sports, a couple more baseball teams have offered Clark to become a special guest play-by-play announcer. The Milwaukee Brewers invited the Fever star to join one of the broadcasts in the future, while a minor league team, the Savannah Bananas, also offered the same thing.
