Following a strong campaign in 2024, the Indiana Fever are looking forward to next season. One of their players, however, might have a busy schedule in the next couple of weeks.
Forward NaLyssa Smith was reportedly released by the Zhejiang Golden Bulls of the WCBA. However, contrary to initial reports, it seems like both parties agreed to part ways, as Smith took to X to call the narrative of her release being "clip farming."
Then, the team also released a statement to clear the air:
"After friendly negotiations between both parties, our club has amicably broken up with American player Nalyssa Smith. The club will continue to search for suitable foreign players," the statement read.
There have been multiple rumors about Caitlin Clark's teammate potentially joining the new 'Unrivaled' 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
All the roster spots have been filled up already. Then again, Los Angeles Sparks star Cameron Brink won't participate in the first edition of the tournament, as she's still rehabbing from an ACL tear she suffered during her rookie WNBA season.
So far, there has been no official word regarding whether Smith could join the league. She has also been tangled up in trade rumors, so that will be a story to keep a close eye on.
It's the dawn of a new era for the Indiana Fever
Led by Caitlin Clark's unmatched shot-making and playmaking, the Fever clinched a playoff spot during her rookie season.
Now, with a new coach in Stephanie White, they'll look to pick up things where they left them and get even further next year.
White is returning to the Fever after serving as an assistant coach and head coach from 2011 to 2016, so she's pretty familiar with the environment and the workplace culture. The roster, however, is entirely different.
Clark has been the most prominent name on social media since she entered the league, and after averaging almost 20 points per game in her rookie season, expectations will be even steeper. Whether NaLyssa Smith will be by her side to try and lead the way remains to be seen.
