Former WNBA player Val Whiting went off on social media over what she perceived to be "double standards" in favor of Caitlin Clark. She made these comments on X while referring to an incident involving the Indiana Fever rookie and Las Vegas Aces guard Jackie Young in their game on Friday night in Indianapolis.
The said play occurred early in the third period of the Aces' 78-74 victory over the Fever after Young was called for a holding foul at the top of the key. Afterwards, Clark bumped into the Aces guard as she tried to position herself for the resumption of play.
Whiting, 52, who played for the Detroit Shock and Minnesota Lynx in the early years of the WNBA, took issue on what Caitlin Clark did. She said had it been Young who made the bump, she would have been chided from all directions.
She took to X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday to express her dismay, writing:
"If the roles were reversed on this shoulder bump that Caitlin gave Jackie, then she would be receiving death threats and cyber bullying by now. She would be called a jealous bitter racist thug. The double standard is exhausting. I just want things to be fair."

Fortunately, nothing untoward took place following the play, and both Caitlin Clark and Jackie Young went with their business.
Clark finished with all-around numbers of 18 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in the loss while Young had 12 points and six assists.
Jackie Young's sporting gesture towards Caitlin Clark during July matchup
During a play when the two teams last met in July, the rookie guard slipped. Instead of rushing to resume play, Young made sure Clark was okay by re-tying her own shoelaces just as the rookie was tying hers, to allow for the Fever player to recover.

After the game, which the Aces won 88-69, Young shared what took place between her and Caitlin Clark in said play.
She said (via The Sporting News):
"Just doing the right thing -- just making sure she's good, and just checking on her. I gave her a little tap [and] make sure she's cool. Because at the end of the day, we just wanna play this, have fun, be healthy. Just giving her a little time to reset, regroup and make sure she's OK."
Young and the Aces have had the number of Clark and the Fever this WNBA season, sweeping all of their four matches, the most recent being Friday's 78-74 victory in Indiana. In the four games they played, Clark averaged 11.25 points, 7.5 assists and 6.25 rebounds while Young normed 13.75 points, 6.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per contest.
