Plenty of fans brought Caitlin Clark to a conversation regarding the USA Basketball women's team set to represent the country in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Despite being the most famous face in women's basketball, the Indiana Fever rookie was snubbed, raising several eyebrows.
Last night, it was the turn of the female Team USA to be ignored to favor other teams and athletes. Global star Beyoncé paid homage to a lot of athletes going to Paris to try to bring a medal back home in an exciting two-minute promo.
The video shows some of the best athletes in the delegation, including Simone Biles, Noah Lyles, Caeleb Dressel, Katie Ledecky, Sha'Carri Richardson and even LeBron James, who's labeled as a legend in the clip.
The promo ends with no track of the USA Basketball women's team, a squad keen to win a record-breaking eighth gold medal in this year's Olympics.
This decision raised more eyebrows from fans, with some even bringing Caitlin Clark's snub to the conversation. One fan said that if the players on the team were fine without the exposure Clark would've gotten them, they should be fine not being featured in this video.
"Seeing lots of disappointment that the women’s basketball team wasn’t featured. They told everyone they were fine with little-to-no publicity when they snubbed the biggest name in the sport, so this shouldn’t be a surprise. This is about winning gold, not being marketable, right?" one fan said.
"No doubt they would be had they brought CC along," one fan wrote.
More fans mocked Team USA, saying that NBC snubbed them from the promo on behalf of Caitlin Clark, while another person trolled the team for wanting all the attention on them.
"But they wanted all the attention right? 😂😂😂," one fan said.
"Should’ve put @CaitlinClark22 on the team..," one fan wrote.
Lindsay Whalen justifies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark's snub from Team USA
Former WNBA star Lindsay Whalen tried to shed light on this decision, explaining why Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese were snubbed from the USA Basketball women's team this year.
"This is a four year process to make this team ...There's training camps, there's practices, there's Zoom calls, and there's so much that goes into it," said Whalen.
"It was just a lot of timing and availability ... Caitlin, Angel, they are in college trying to win national championships and this group over here is practicing and training to win a gold medal," added Whalen
Angel Reese already expressed her desire to share touches with Clark at the next Olympics, so the pair is likely to bring glory in the future.
