Caitlin Clark is back to her deadly best after the Indiana Fever’s five-day break. Clark lit up the Washington Mystics with 30 points on 8-for-15 shooting, including a dazzling 7-for-13 clip from behind the arc. Indiana needed her explosion to eke out an 85-83 road win against Washington.
The No. 1 pick of this year’s draft wasn’t just effective on offense. She also had her fingerprints all over the floor with eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. It was a big bounce-back game following recent struggles before the badly needed time off came.
On the second night of a back-to-back set almost a week ago, Caitlin Clark didn’t look like herself against the New York Liberty. The Fever were coming off an emotional 71-70 win against the Chicago Sky when they took on last year’s WNBA finalists. Clark ended the night with a three-point, five-assist, two-rebound and two-steal performance. It was arguably the worst game of his career.
The added days of rest showed with the energy she displayed against the Mystics. Clark was all over the floor leading the Indiana Fever versus a team that was desperate to get its first win of the season. Her six free throws late in the game allowed them to escape with the win.
Caitlin Clark and the Fever face an acid test on Monday
The Indiana Fever will cap off a three-game road swing with a stop at Connecticut on Monday to take on the unbeaten Sun. In the first match between the two teams, which happened in the series opener, Caitlin had a solid debut. She had 20 points, three assists and two steals but the Sun comfortably marched to a 92-71 win.
To prevent another beatdown, Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell will all have to play well simultaneously. If one of them has an off night, it might be another parade to the finish line by the hosts of Monday’s rematch.
Caitlin Clark, in particular, needs to be more than just a scorer for the Indiana Fever when they face the Connecticut Sun. In her WNBA against the same opponents, she only had two assists, her lowest as a pro and didn’t haul down a single rebound.
For Indiana to have a chance of winning the rematch, Clark will need to have her impact on both sides of the ball. After a superb display against the winless Mystics, fans will be interested to see how she will fare versus the unbeaten Sun.
