WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark has been a Nike athlete since her days in Iowa. Clark has yet to release a signature shoe and some of her fans seem upset. Several fans have seemingly become more displeased after it was announced that UConn star Paige Bueckers is getting Player Exclusive shoes.
On Tuesday, Bueckers became the first NIL athlete to have her own Player Exclusive sneakers. Her shoes will use the Nike G.T. Hustle 3 as their base.
Several fans voiced their opinions on social media:
"Indiana Fever fans and Caitlin Clark fans need to boycott all Nike products," one person said.
"Where's Caitlin's shoe Nike?" one fan asked.
"They're ugly put Caitlin Clark shoes out," another fan tweeted.
The reactions weren't just limited to X. Some fans also went on Instagram to share their opinions on the matter.
"No CC signature shoe, and there are just the Wembys in a different color and a different logo, this is getting annoying," one person commented.
"Wilson and Clark better have some serious heat with Nike because these are fire and she still in college!!" One person chimed in.
"These are bad, just give Clark a shoe," one person said.
For context, a Player Exclusive or a PE sneaker differs from a signature shoe. A PE shoe is an exclusive design of a pre-existing sneaker that, as the name suggests, is exclusive to a specific player.
Paige Bueckers' Nike Hustle G.T. Hustle 3 is an example of this. This particular shoe has several colorways, but not every single one was designed by Bueckers or with Bueckers in mind. This sneaker also has a colorway for the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year, Victor Wembanyama.
While she has yet to release a signature sneaker line, Caitlin Clark has been seen wearing her own Player Exclusive sneakers in the past.
What were Caitlin Clark's Player Exclusive sneakers?
During the 2024 WNBA season, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark wore Nikes that paid homage to Kobe Bryant.
Her first-ever PE sneakers were a pair of Nike Kobe 5 Protro which she debuted during a practice session in July. The sneaker featured a yellow colorway that represented two teams Clark was or is a part of.
The Fever posted a clip of Clark talking about the sneakers on X (formerly Twitter).
"It's pretty cool," Clark said in the clip. "I feel like it's Fever but it's also Iowa so you get the best of both worlds."
Clark also mentioned in the clip that she had another pair of sneakers that was more representative of the Indiana Fever.
In the Sept. 11 game against the Las Vegas Aces, she debuted a pair of Nike Kobe 6s. Not long after, she was seen wearing another unique pair of the Nike Kobe Protro 5. Fans first saw this pair as she warmed up for her postseason debut against the Connecticut Sun on Sept. 22.
