LA Sparks All-Star forward Dearica Hamby is looking forward to reuniting with former teammate Kelsey Plum after a blockbuster on Sunday that sent the Las Vegas Aces guard to Los Angeles.
Plum, who spent seven years with the San Antonio/Las Vegas franchise, was part of a three-team deal, involving the Aces, Sparks and Seattle Storm. LA received Plum and a 2025 No. 9 pick while Las Vegas got Jewell Loyd and a 2025 No. 13 pick. Seattle, for its part, got hold of the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and Li Yueru.
With the Sparks, three-time All-Star Plum joins Hamby and young stars Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson.
Hamby, who signed a one-year, $202,000 contract extension with the Sparks back in June, reacted to the trade that sent Plum to Los Angeles with a post on X (formerly Twitter). She posted a photo of her and Plum during their time in Las Vegas and wrote a series of fingers crossed emojis.
Kelsey Plum had another All-Star campaign in what turned out to be her final year in Las Vegas last season. She posted numbers of 17.8 points, 4.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 38 games while helping the Aces reach the semifinals.
In her seven years with the Aces, Plum had career averages of 14.3 points, four assists and 2.5 rebounds in 235 games and winning back-to-back WNBA titles in 2022 and 2023.
With the Sparks, she joins a team which looks to bounce back after finishing with a league-worst record of 8-32 last campaign.
Kelsey Plum's Las Vegas departure already expected
Kelsey Plum never really publicly asked the Las Vegas Aces to trade her, but talk was already rife that she was looking to have a fresh start somewhere else and was ready to go.
It all came to reality on Sunday when she was shipped to the LA Sparks in a three-team deal, which also involved the Seattle Storm. The trade package also included players Jewell Loyd and Li Yueru and 2025 draft picks distributed among the parties.
Kelsey Plum played seven years with the Aces and had her best year in the 2022 season, where she had career-high averages of 20.2 points and 5.1 assists. That year, she finished third in the MVP voting and made her first All-Star appearance while ending up helping Las Vegas win the WNBA title.
The Aces now try to recalibrate with fellow All-Star Loyd now part of their backcourt. Last season, she was good for 19.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game for the Storm, who finished the regular season with a 25-15 record.
