As the Paris Olympics draw near, the Canada Women's Basketball team looks to bring their maiden gold home. They haven't won a single medal at the Olympics since qualifying for the tournament for the first time in 1976.
They finished ninth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, whereas the USA team bagged the gold medal. Competing for the gold medal this time won't be an easy task, as there are a lot of national teams stacked with talented players.
However, they have demonstrated great performance in the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup, where they beat Puerto Rico to secure the Bronze Medal. The Canadian Women's Basketball team has been drawn into Group B of the tournament alongside France, Nigeria, and Australia.
Their biggest hurdle in this group stage are Australia and France. The Australians have had a rich history with Women's basketball in the tournament and already have more medals than Canada.
They have proved themselves as a strong opponent for the Canadian side after their dominant performances in the FIBA Women's World Cup and FIBA Women's Asia Cup.
On the other hand, France has always been a tough competitor. They finished in third place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2023 Women's EuroBasket.
