Caitlin Clark played and lost her third WNBA game. Her second matchup against the New York Liberty was a little more competitive than the first two duels of the season, with the rookie guard showing a better face against the 2023 WNBA Finals runners-up.
After breaking a WNBA record in her first game, the Clark effect was on full display on Saturday. The New York Liberty earned over $2 million in revenue, the highest in WNBA history, Bri Liwerke reports.
Fans reacted to this news, with the majority agreeing that this was the Caitlin Clark effect doing its thing on fans.
"CC haters take note," one fan wrote.
"That’s the CC effect!" one fan added.
"New Yorkers chose THIS game because they wanted to see CC," somebody else said.
Some fans implied that the fans were there to watch Liberty, but others disagreed, stating that Clark gets all this attention regardless of where she's playing.
"But 80% is there to see CC," one fan wrote.
"And there to also see CC," another added.
The young WNBA season has been entertaining, especially with all the things happening with fans. Angel Reese is drawing a lot of attention with the Chicago Sky, even making the Mystics change their venue for their game against the Sky.
Clark's first game was the most-watched duel in the league in 23 years, with 2.12 million spectators and now this. The new era of the league is off to a great start.
Caitlin Clark improved in her third WNBA game
The Indiana Fever traveled to New York to face Liberty. They didn't stand a chance against the New Yorkers, losing 102-66.
However, Caitlin Clark played much better, scoring 15 points in the first half of the game. She finished with 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Kelsey Mitchell contributed with 17 points but it wasn't enough to beat the Liberty.Turnovers are still a pending assignment for Clark, who recorded eight today.
The Fever did win the third and fourth quarters of today's game, ultimately losing the game by 11 points. A win would have been much better for them, but it seems like they're getting better by the day.
Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 24 points, while Sabrina Ionescu added 12. The Fever plays against the Connecticut Sun on Monday and the Liberty will host Seattle the same day.
