Celtics' Joe Mazzulla offers hilarious take after witnessing Minnesota Lynx heroics

On Thursday, the Minnesota Lynx gave the WNBA fans and the basketball community an unforgettable moment during their first game of the WNBA Finals against the New York Liberty. Joe Mazzulla, the coach of the NBA champion Boston Celtics, offered a hilarious take on the play while talking to Celtics reporter Noa Dalzell.

Dalzell uploaded the video of her brief interview on her X account. She asked Mazulla about his thoughts on women's basketball and if he watches it.

In his response, the Celtics coach said he was caught up with Lynx's 95-93 overtime win against the Liberty. Dalzel followed up with another question, picking Mazulla's brain on whether he had any takeaways from that game, and the Celtics coach had a hilarious answer.

"Yeah, we watched that situation this morning... don't foul on a 4-point play," Mazulla said.

The 4-point play that the Celtics coach talked about in his response was the game-changing moment in the first matchup of the finals series between the Minnesota Lynx and the New York Liberty.

The Lynx had trailed behind the home team the entire game. However, in the final five seconds with the score 83-80, Minnesota's Courtney Williams was fouled as she made a shot beyond the arc. She had a chance at a 4-point play from the charity line, and the veteran buried it gracefully, giving her team its first lead of the game.

From that point, the contest flipped in the favor of the visiting team, who secured the win in overtime and upset the fans in attendance at Barclays Center.

Courtney Williams issues a bold statement about the Minnesota Lynx being an underdog

Courtney Williams issued a bold statement in response to the idea of the Minnesota Lynx being an "underdog" heading into the final series against the Liberty. Her words expressed her unhinged mentality and hunger for victory.

"I don't care if they think we top dog, lil' dog, underdog. Long as we a dog," Williams said.

The WNBA Finals between the Minnesota Lynx and the New York Liberty can be considered a David versus Goliath matchup. The Liberty are a huge market team with greatly successful runs in the past few years. On the other hand, the Lynx have not made a finals appearance since 2018.

The Liberty were the WNBA finalists last year and fell against A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces. They managed to get past their archrivals in the semifinals and made it to the WNBA Finals again this year, becoming the favorites to win it all.
