Following a collapse that led to a Game 1 loss on Thursday, Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty looked for revenge in Game 2. They successfully tied the series at one apiece against the Minnesota Lynx after a dominant performance in an 80-66 win on Sunday.
Eight different players suited up for the Liberty, but the Lynx had to deal with a larger opposition. A record-setting 18,040 fans were present at the Barclays Center to support the Liberty.
Stewart addressed the fans after the Liberty tied the series.
"I mean I couldn't wait to come back here Sunday and change the narrative a little bit," Stewart said. "I appreciate you guys so much for continuing to have our backs. You guys helped us get this one."
Aside from the fans setting a Barclays Center attendance record, Breanna Stewart also set a record. Her seven steals were the most in a finals game.
The teams will now travel to Minnesota where they will play at the Target Center for Games 3 and 4. Game 3 will take place on Wednesday and Game 4 will be on Friday.
Since the WNBA Finals is only a best-of-five series, the team that wins three games first will be crowned champions.
If the Lynx and the Liberty split the next two games, Game 5 will see both teams return to New York on Oct. 21.
