Chennedy Carter is recovering from a foot injury and enjoying a well-deserved break from WNBA basketball. Carter’s season was cut short after the said injury forced her out of the Chicago Sky’s final two regular season games. Without her, Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, Diamond DeShields and Elizabeth Williams, the Sky limped to the finish line.

With Chicago’s season over, the No. 4 pick of the 2020 draft is spending her free time well. She recently went on Instagram to share a photo of herself relaxing on a boat and captioned it:

“This season was one for the books.”

Part of the clip in her stories was a set of questions Carter refused to comment on. She was asked about her favorite thing to do in Chicago, if she was single and where she sees herself in five years. The feisty guard didn’t respond but reacted to the questions with a smirking emoji.

Chennedy Carter has kept her life outside of basketball very private, so it wasn’t surprising how she reacted to the questions. Carter did say that she was interested in returning to play for the Chicago Sky if the team would want her back. She is a restricted free agent to the Sky and can match any offers if they want to keep her.

Chennedy Carter’s 2024 campaign was certainly “one for the books”

Chennedy Carter’s WNBA looked over when the LA Sparks waived her in March 2023 for “poor conduct.” No team would sign her, forcing her to sit out the season. The Chicago Sky took a chance on her and gave her a training camp invite in 2024.

Carter made the most of the opportunity, easily earning a spot on the roster. As the season progressed, she became indispensable for Teresa Weatherspoon. Carter’s chemistry with the rookie sensation Angel Reese made her even more invaluable.

From an under-the-radar signing, Chennedy Carter finished with a career-high 17.5 points per game, the best among Sky players this season. She added 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per contest.

Together with Reese, she set the tone for the Chicago Sky’s identity. They are unapologetic and couldn’t care less what others think of them. Sky fans loved them and want to see more of the Carter-Reese partnership in Chicago.

Chennedy Carter was right. 2024 was “one for the books” in her WNBA career.
