On Wednesday, the Connecticut Sun acquired Marina Mabrey as part of a trade with the Chicago Sky. The deal saw the Sky ship out Mabrey and a 2025 second-round pick. In return they acquired Rachel Banham, Moriah Jefferson, a 2025 first-round pick and the rights to swap their 2026 first-round picks.
The trade was finalized less than a day after the Sky picked up a win over the Las Vegas Aces. The Aces entered this season as two-time defending champions looking to three-peat. Despite a dominant performance that saw her log 15 points and three steals, Mabrey has now been traded to the Connecticut Sun.
The trade will see Mabrey bolster the Sun at the guard spot. The team looks to make a strong push in the second half of the season after slipping to second in the WNBA's power rankings.
Given Mabrey has started in all 24 games she played for the Chicago Sky, she should start in Connecticut. Of course, this means Sun coach Stephanie White will likely have to adjust the starting lineup.

Looking at Marina Mabrey's stats this year on the heels of Connecticut Sun trade
So far this season, Marina Mabrey has continued to impress for the Chicago Sky, filling up the stat sheet in several ways despite the team's struggles.
Over 23 games played, Mabrey has been averaging 14.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Her 5.1 rpg average marks a new career-high, surpassing the 3.9 rpg she averaged during the 2021 season with the Dallas Wings.
Similarly, her 4.6 apg average marks another career high for the guard, who has averaged 3.0 apg throughout her six-year career.
In the case of the Connecticut Sun, the team jumped out to a strong start this year, leading the league early on in the season. Despite that, it has since hit a snag, going just 5-5 in its last ten. It has fallen to second place in the Eastern Conference and the WNBA power rankings.
After losing to the New York Liberty on Tuesday, the Sun will spend the next month recovering during the WNBA's All-Star and the Olympic break.
The WNBA All-Star Game will be held this weekend in Phoenix, and DeWanna Bonner and Brionna Jones will represent the Sun. Both will play for Team WNBA against Team USA. The Connecticut Sun will also have Alyssa Thomas representing them on Team USA in the Olympics.
