The Connecticut Sun has made some changes to the roster, first by trading for Marina Mabrey in July and then with the signing of Celeste Taylor on Friday. Mabrey was acquired via a trade with the Chicago Sky in exchange for Rachel Banham, Moriah Jefferson, a 2025 first-round pick and a 2026 first-round pick.

Meanwhile, Taylor was acquired from free agency and was awarded a seven-day contract. Other details of Taylor's signing are not discussed as per the team's policy.

The Sun lost two rotational pieces in their backcourt by trading Banham and Jefferson. However, their depth won't suffer since Mabrey and Taylor play the guard positions.

Dewanna Bonner, Dijonai Carrington and Brionna Jones led the Sun to a favorable position before the break. They have the second-best record in the WNBA (18-6) behind the New York Liberty (22-4).

Connecticut Sun Depth Chart for 2024 season after signing Celeste Taylor

The Connecticut Sun might have an interesting prospect in Celeste Taylor, but finding where she fits on the roster might be a challenge. The team might have a backcourt logjam with this acquisition. Here is what their depth chart looks like:

Both DiJonai Carrington and Tiffany Mitchell are out due to injuries. However, they are expected to return soon, with their estimated return dates listed by ESPN as Aug. 17.

If Carrington isn't available, Mabrey might get a shot at the starting lineup.

Celeste Taylor is playing with her third team in her rookie season

With the Connecticut Sun signing her to a seven-day contract, Celeste Taylor will wear her third jersey in her maiden season in the WNBA.

Taylor was selected by the Indiana Fever with the third pick in the second round of the 2024 draft. However, she only suited up for five games before she was waived. Afterward, she was signed by the Phoenix Mercury to a seven-day contract.

She suited up for four games with the Mercury. Coincidentally, the first game she played with the Mercury was against the Fever. In that game, Taylor had five assists, three rebounds and two steals.
