Chicago Sky star Angel Reese attended an Emirates NBA Cup game at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, where the New York Knicks faced the Orlando Magic. The WNBA-NBA crossover moment sparked a wave of fan jokes and reactions online.

The Knicks’ official X/Twitter account shared a photo of Reese, last season’s Rookie of the Year runner-up, with the caption:

“There’s an angel courtside.”

Knicks fans responded to the photo, with some suggesting that she should have suited up to bolster the Knicks' frontcourt.

“We could use her on the glass,” one said.
“Sign her for depth…she can grab some boards,” another added.

Reese’s WNBA stats back up the humor: she averaged a league-best 13.1 rebounds along with 13.6 points in 32.5 minutes per game. By contrast, the Knicks rank in the bottom 10 for rebounds, averaging 42.8 boards per game.

“Andrea Drummond,” one fan said.
“Superstar Barbie in da building,” another added.

The Knicks won the game 121-106 and outrebounded the Magic 49-46.

Some referenced Reese’s recent comments about her WNBA salary, speculating about her courtside expenses.

“She gave up rent to sit courtside,” one said.
"I thought she was complaining about her rent recently,” another said.
"Her entire salary on those tickets,” another added.

Angel Reese laments WNBA salary not enough to pay rent

In October, Reese went viral for revealing on Instagram Live that her WNBA salary wasn’t sufficient to cover her living expenses.

Reese shared that her monthly rent costs $8,000, totaling $96,000 annually — significantly higher than her rookie salary of $73,439.

"I just hope y'all know, the WNBA don't pay my bills at all. I don't even think it pays one of my bills. Literally," she said.

While the WNBA season doesn’t last the entire year, Angel Reese supplements her income with lucrative endorsement deals. During her final year at LSU, her NIL valuation reached $1.8 million.

Reese's rookie deal is worth $324,383 over four years.

She is poised to earn a significant sum in the Unrivaled league. As reported by Sports Business Journal, the average salary for players in the 3x3 league is projected to be around $250,000, which greatly exceeds current WNBA salaries, where the 2024 minimum base salary stands at $64,150 and the supermax cap is $241,984.
