Izzy Harrison of the Chicago Sky experienced 'harassment' from the team's supporters after sharing a post celebrating Caitlin Clark. Harrison shared a post about Clark winning the 2024 Rookie of the Year award. Sky fans haven't moved on from Angel Reese losing the award and didn't appreciate Reese's teammate sharing it on social media.
Since the league started to give the awards to the winners, Harrison has been actively sharing it on social media. On X, she reposts the updates, as appreciation for her fellow competitors.
However, some fans were offended when she shared the post related to Clark winning the award.
"The WNBA is still going to and continue to grow!" Harrison posted. "But yeah, harassment from your own team's fanbase is crazy work!"
Other fans stood up for Harrison on the social media platform. The Sky player appreciated the gesture from the fans who stood by her.
"THANK YOU! always have. it never gave hater lol," Harrison replied to a fan defending her.
The Rookie of the Year race was one of the highlights of the season. It was a battle between Clark and Reese the entire year. The Sky rookie had a chance but she suffered a hand injury that kept her on the sidelines, only playing 34 games.
Caitlin Clark calls out the haters
Throughout her rookie campaign, Caitlin Clark faced scrutiny from fans who rallied behind other players. Some fans pitted her against Reese as they battled for the ROTY award. It even reached a point where the focus was on the players' race, which has caught the attention of WNBA stars.
After the Indiana Fever's playoff elimination, Clark addressed the matter during her postgame interview. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star even went as far as to call the haters "trolls" and "not real fans."
"It's definitely upsetting, I don't think there's--nobody in our league should be facing any sort of racism, hurtful, disrespectful, hateful comments and threats. Those aren’t fans. Those are trolls," Clark said.
"But there are really good fans. Whether they've been fans for 20 plus years or whether their new fans in our league, I think continuing to uplift this league in a very positive light is the best thing we can do. Because there are so many great players. There are so many great teams, there are so many positive storylines that can be written and celebrated."
In the end, Clark encouraged everyone to uplift the league and leave out the negativity.
