Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark is not the one to shy away from voicing her opinion. There have been numerous instances when Clark has candidly reacted to decision made by the officials during a game. During Indiana Fever's 95-86 win over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday, Clark was visibly upset with the referees.
The incident transpired with 5:48 remaining in the 2nd quarter and Christie Sides' team leading the Mercury 33-22. The referees called for an official timeout after the ball went out of bounds, resulting in a turnover for Clark and the Fever. Replay showed that the ball touched a Mercury player's leg before it rolled out.
Clark didn't agree with the referee's decision and vented her frustration. The Fever rookie held her head in disappointment before allegedly asking the referees to "WAKE UP" and hurling "You guys are so bad" at the officials.
Fans reacted to Clark's whining to the referees during the game vs. the Mercury. A section of fans hit out at the Indiana Fever rookie for constantly complaining.
"Cry baby always complaining," wrote a fan.
"Whiner. She literally having a field day against a team whose backcourt is wiped out by injury. And still she whines," wrote another fan while criticizing Clark.
One of the fans even compared Caitlin Clark to LeBron James in terms of complaining to the officials.
"She's a great player..but she complains to the refs every damn game lol literally worse than LeBron."
Other fans voiced support for Clark and called out the referees for being inconsistent with their whistles and making mistakes.
"I don’t know what happened there but when I watch it is very apparent that the WNBA refs are very very bad. They miss the obvious calls and whistle all kinds of phantom fouls. There are more traveling calls in one W game than there are in an entire NBA season," a fan commented.
"WNBA needs to up the pay if they want better officiating," said another fan.
"The whole W. Coaches, players, refs, front offices are behind Caitlin…. Caitlin plays a brand different from anything ANY ONE of them know. She’s light years ahead," opined another X user.
