Throughout the course of the WNBA season, DiJonai Carrington has never shied away from speaking her mind online. She recently sounded off on an online critic after going too far when mocking her latest outing.
On Wednesday night, the Connecticut Sun faced off against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Thanks to a stellar performance from the rookie phenom, the Fever were able to walk out with an 84-80 victory.
After the game, DiJonai Carrington made a post on X (formerly Twitter) about the Fever fan base. One person commented with a photoshopped picture of the George Floyd murder featuring her and Clark. Carrington ended up re-posting the photo and voicing her displeasure with using something like that in a joking manner.
"Imagine thinking George Floyd’s murder is a joke. all because of a basketball game. this is so sick."
Carrington is amid a career year for the Sun and did everything she could to lead her team to victory over Indiana. She finished with a team-high 19 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and an impressive six steals.
As for Clark, she also did a little bit of everything in Wednesday night's matchup. In 37 minutes of action, she tallied 19 points, five rebounds and five assists.
DiJonai Carrington had career night against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever
While DiJonai Carrington did lead the Connecticut Sun in scoring on Wednesday, defense is primarily what she's known for. Along with putting on an impressive two-way showing against Caitlin Clark and the Fever, the veteran guard set a new career high.
The thing that stands out the most from Carrington's stat line against Indiana was her six steals. This dominant showing on the defensive end marked a new single-game high for her.
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2021 draft, DiJonai Carrington has continually developed for the Sun. In her fourth season, she finds herself amid a breakout year. With about 10 games to go in the regular season, Carrington is averaging career-highs in points (12.8), rebounds (4.9), assists (1.6) and steals (1.4).
Carrington has been a standout performer for the Sun as they attempt to finish with one of the top seeds in the WNBA. Coming out of the break, they had the league's second-best record behind the New York Liberty. However, they've fallen to third place after the Minnesota Lynx jumped ahead of them. Only trailing them by half a game, the Sun can still reclaim the No. 2 seed before the season is over.
